I was informed by Jamie Haydon today that the full Racing Authority has approved nine Non-Race Breeds' applications for the Ky Breeder's
Incentive Fund. Our's was among the nine. The Arabians actually dropped out, which left more money for the other nine breeds. I went to a
KHRA meeting last Wednesday at which the Non-Race Breeds subcommittee gave their approval of the plans. All programs will be in place for
the period of 2006-2008 and our percentage of the money will remain the same for the period, adjusted according to the amount of each year's
tax receipts. Jamie also told me last week that our share of the 2006 funds will be $50,861.
I sent the 2006 winners' info to Jamie today. They will be sending an application to each winner which must be completed and returned to them.
It will include your Social Security number so they can also send you a 1099 for tax purposes. Jamie told me last week that the 2006 money
should be to the winners by July 1, 2007. This should be much quicker next year.
The KApOA Board is meeting on the afternoon of the 22nd to discuss our programs and to make any last minute plans for the Derby weekend
shows. On this note, anyone wanting to count these shows need to get their memberships, certification applications, nominations, etc. in as
necessary prior to the shows. We don't need them brought to the shows to try to determine if someone is eligible at that time.
It's been a long time coming, but I think we're going to have programs to help increase involvement with our breed in Kentucky. We have three
weekends of Appaloosa shows in Kentucky for 2007, the Open Show Circuit programs offers a chance to promote our breed at fair, saddle club
and open shows, the Futurity offers nice payback for the weanlings and Appaloosa owners can be rewarded for trail rides through the saddle log
program. Spread the word that it pays to own an Appaloosa in Kentucky!

June 16, 2007
Great news! At least a portion of the 2006 competition winners for the KApOA futurity, show and saddle log programs received their checks from the Kentucky Racing Authority today. I suspect the remainder will receive their checks next week.
This is a good time to remind everyone to spread the word about our programs. If you haven't joined KApOA, certified your horses and nominated for the appropriate programs, now is the time to do so! Remember, you can't count any competitions unless all paperwork is complete.
Mitch Whittle
KApOA President
All the 2006 competition winners should have their money by now. Unless Barbara has received more 2007 nominations recently, we don’t have a lot of horses nominated. I realize some people are waiting on the futurity nominations.
Please remember that prior to counting any 2007 competitions
*the horse must be certified as KY Bred ( which means the weanlings must have their Reg. papers ),
*the horse must be nominated for the competition
*and the owner and exhibitor must be members of KApOA.
All rules and forms are on the website at kyappaloosas.homestead.com.
The KApOA Open show is September 15-16 and you have to show at least one day to qualify for the KApOA Open show program. This show is NOT ApHC approved. There are other open shows that you could be accruing points at now if the horse is KY Bred and nominated and you are a KApOA member. The Nan Tippin Classic is September 29-30 as a 4 judge ApHC show over two days. Both weekends are being held at Lakeside Arena outside Frankfort, KY. We hope to have good turnouts for both weekends.
Spread the word that it pays to own a KY Bred Appaloosa! Hope to see you at the shows!
